Eye care professionals specialize in understanding how the human eye really works, as well as diseases and conditions that affect your vision—many of which do not always have obvious symptoms. Eye doctors know how age and risk factors affect vision over time for young and old, and they understand the benefits and features of corrective lenses, both as eyeglass lenses and contact lenses.
Our optometrist takes the time to explain the results of your eye exam, describe your options and listen to your eye care needs. Because maintaining good eye health is an ongoing partnership, we encourage you to ask questions and share your health information, which could be vital to monitoring, diagnosing and treating potential vision problems.

L. Brett Abney, O.D.
Dr. L. Brett Abney is a 1995 graduate of Western Ky University and a 1999 graduate of Southern College of Optometry. Dr. Abney completed an externship in 1998 at Commonwealth Eye Surgery in Lexington, KY, and an externship in 1999 at Kentucky Eye Health Centers in Benton. In 1999 Dr. Abney became the Center Director of the American Eye Institute in Evansville, IN. There he coordinated and co-managed ocular surgery cases including LASIK, PRK, RK, Refractive IOL placement and cataracts. After leaving this location, Dr. Abney moved his family to Leitchfield and now owns and is clinical director of Abney Eye Center. He practices comprehensive eye care for pediatrics and adults including surgical comanagement, specialty contact lens fittings, low vision rehabilitation and ocular disease management. He also provides eye care to several area nursing homes. He serves as the Vice President of the Kentucky Optometric Association, Leitchfield Lions Club Board of Directors, President of the Grayson County Chamber of Commerce, Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center Board of Directors, and Leitchfield Planning and Zoning Board of Directors. Dr. Abney opened his second clinic in Brownsville, KY in February 2010. He and Dana reside in Leitchfield with their children Paige and Payton.
